Newfoundland is well-known for its natural beauty and generous people. New World Island, located in the North Eastern region of Newfoundland, is just another example of that beauty and generosity. New World Island is one of the largest inhabited islands in Newfoundland, located in Notre Dame Bay, an hour north of Gander. The island is crossed on your way to Twillingate island and both islands are now connected to the mainland by causeways. New World Island is thirty one miles long and has over sixteen communities, including Summerford, Herring Neck and Moreton's Harbour, featured in Newfoundland's well-known folk song, I'se the By. The island is surrounded by the North Atlantic on one side and separated from the mainland by Dildo Run, an archipelago and waterway featuring a multitude of wildlife. Dildo Run can be accessed from Dildo Run Provincial Park just past Virgin Arm. New World Island can be approached from either Lewisporte on the Road to the Isles or from Gander through Gander Bay, crossing the Gander River.
